FOR SALE:
Zuckerman “Italian Virginal II” in Good Condition.
54 notes, BB-e’’’ (©1973) built from a kit designed by David J. Way of Zuckerman.
The Italian Virginal is designed in a simple rectangular, taking full advantage of the virginal's 'consort-in-a box' effect and using the distinctive sounds to accentuate the lines of their polyphonic music. With only one string per note running parallel to the keyboard on the long side of the case, the Virginal produces a gentle, resonant tone by plucking the string near the middle. In Elizabethan times, the term “virginal” was often used to designate any kind of harpsichord, thus the masterworks of William Byrd and his contemporaries were often played on these instruments as well as full-size harpsichords.
On an Italian Virginal such as this one, you will enjoy playing the music from the famous Fitzwilliam Virginal Books, as well as most any early keyboard literature from composers like Frescobaldi, Scarlatti, and Bach.
Contact: Beth Hunter, orghunter@aol.com, at Church of the Ascension, Clearwater for information. (I am presently researching a fair market value.)
